IDA winner: G.Ríos Furniture & Design

All Submissions are evaluated by an expert jury of luminaries. The jury committee is comprised of independent designers, clients, design educators and editors who are devoted to brilliance in design. The Evaluation is based on a range of criteria that are constantly adapted to current standards.

Bart Ruijpers 

VP of Design and Branding at EOS products.

After 11 years as director of industrial design at Karim Rashid's studio in New York, Bart recently took on an new position at EOS to create and implement a design vision for everything that's EOS. Having graduating with a Master's degree in Industrial Design Engineering from the Delft University of Technology in his home country of the Netherlands, Bart joined Karim's team in 2005. He worked to become the lead of the industrial design department of Karim's studio in New York, spearheading a wide range of award winning design collaborations with clients from all over the world.

Lawrence Abrahamson

Lawrence Abrahamson is a Design Director at IDEO NY who brings 20 years of professional experience working on interdisciplinary teams in international contexts. From home bases in Singapore, Washington, DC, Portland, OR, Chicago, and New York, Lawrence has collaborated on a variety of retail, brand, healthcare, and workplace projects.

An environments and service designer, Lawrence explores the boundaries of space, art and experience. He loves to be surprised and delighted by the sheer creativity of the human race and is a staunch advocate for the end-user. His passion for observing different cultures provides him the ability to see the world with new eyes. As a Visiting Researcher at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore he investigated an Asian perception of space and how these cultural elements can inspire experience and service design everywhere.

Hayo Gebauer

Hayo Gebauer is a product designer based in Berlin. His lighthearted yet thoughtful approach towards modern everyday objects is what highlights his works. He graduated from the prestigious Design Academy Eindhoven where he took part in the master department Contextual Design. His works have gathered international press and have been shown in Milan and the imm Cologne. In 2016 he has ranked on the international deezen hot list. Find out more about Hayo’s work here

Oscar Peña

Co-Principal of Studioilse

Oscar Peña’s career has spanned a number of continents and design disciplines, with extensive commercial expertise and experience within product design. As Co-Principal of Studioilse Oscar now develops the product arm of Studioilse. Prior to joining Studioilse he worked at Philips Design for 25 years, latterly as Global Creative Director for Lighting. As head of the Man and Activity department at the Design Academy Eindhoven Oscar inspires students to look for ways to improve those products and services that have brought us to where we are today.

Yuka Yoneda

Managing Editor Inhabitat

Yuka Yoneda is a writer, cheese lover and JeDIY master whose love of recycled fashion led her to start as a resource for folks looking to revamp what they already have in their closets. Yuka is the Managing Editor of Inhabitat NYC and her refashioned clothing and DIY ideas have been featured on The Today Show, Glamour, and other websites and magazines. Yuka also writes for Ecouterre and has written for The Daily Green and The New York Times.

Yuka also shares her DIY tips through her YouTube videos, which have over 8 million views.

Esther Patterson

A founder and designer of Curiousa & Curiousa, an innovative hand-blown glass lighting company based in the Midlands UK.  The Curiousa collection is a true reflection of Esther’s playfulness mixed in with her love of traditional crafts and techniques. A number of awards has helped acknowledge Esther as one of the pioneers of the new colour movement in lighting.At the start of her career - winning the “Elle Decoration Approval” award in 2010, with subsequent nominations for the “British Design Award” and achieving the 2014 “Dulux Colour Award”, it is little surprise that Liberty London have become an exclusive retailer.

Jaime Derringer

Founder + Executive Editor Design Milk | Dog Milk

Jaime Derringer is founder and editor of modern design blog Design Milk, which has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Time Out New York, San Francisco Chronicle, Singapore Home & Decor magazine, and Real Simple magazine. Design Milk was one of the Google Engineers' Staff Picks and is a Twitter influencer in Art & Design. Inspired by her love for dogs, in 2010 Jaime launched modern design blog Dog Milk to expose dog lovers to pet design that fits their uniquely modern sense of style.

Diane Simpson-Little

Artist, Designer and Creative Educator University of Sussex

Diane is an artist, designer and creative educator with a broad range of skills and experience across key areas of design. Diane is a senior teaching fellow and Head of the Product Design Degrees at the University of Sussex. She facilitates creative interactive workshops, which are in high demand, subjects range from entrepreneurship and creative business development, to visualization, imagination and mindfulness as material for design.  She is a highly sort after consultant in the toy and game industry, providing workshops and speaking engagements. Students she has mentored have not only have gone on to high profile industry positions but also won a variety of awards across product design and toy and game design.

Waikit Chung

Waikit is a Dutch born Hong Kong Chinese Industrial Designer, graduated with a Bachelor and Master Degree in Integrated Product Design from the Delft University of Technology. He is currently a design consultant for Philips Design Shanghai and has been the founder and editor of online design community since 2004.

Lasse Ærthøj-Jensen

Lasse Ærthøj-Jensen is the CEO of BoConcept Los Angeles. After getting a degree in Business Finance he joined BoConcept in the Retail Operation department for the Headquarters  in Denmark. After gaining a foothold  in the Europe, he left for New York to broaden company's reach in  the Americas.

Micha Daniels

Christiane Bausback 

Christiane Bausback is Head of Design and Managing Director of N+P Industrial Design. Together with her international team she strives for innovation, visions and high quality results, supporting customers from around the world from the initial idea until the market-launch.

Since 1970 N+P has been designing high-tech products for public transportation, professional electronics and high-end consumer products, medical equipment and rehabilitation, as well as graphic, interaction and service solutions. Our goal is to constantly question established norms, design products that surpass the user’s expectations and perfectly meet the manufacturing and distribution requirements – developing new concepts and shaping visions.

Parallel to her professional activities, she is also lecturing mainly in Germany and Switzerland. Many of her designs have received numerous national and international design awards.

Jon Marshall

Co-Founder and Creative Director at Map, a London-based creative consultancy with a strategy-led approach to industrial design. Map creates products and user experiences for some of the most innovative and well-known companies in the world including global brands like Panasonic, Virgin Atlantic and Google as well as public institutions, design and advertising agencies and ambitious startups like Kano, Beeline and Hackaball. Recent projects have included the design of autonomous vehicle concepts for Honda, an internet of Things toolkit for Sam Labs and the Tritensil, a combined knife, fork and spoon for Fortnum & Mason.

Davide Radaelli 

Davide Radaelli Design Studio, based in Milano (Italy), has been working for years for international clients, in the fields of product design, exhibit and interior architecture, graphic design & communication.

Davide Radaelli is owner and creative director of the Italian stationery brand Writeground, established in 2016 with the purpose of developing high end products dedicated to drawing and writing.

Beside being a designer and an entrepeneur, Davide Radaelli has worked as set designer for commercials and movies and he is also a lecturer in some design schools (Politecnico di Milano, poli.Design, Istituto Marangoni).

Derrick Lin founded Packaging of the World in 2008 and has led the website to become one of the most prominent packaging design portals in the world. He is also the co-founder and Art Director of Mojo Red, a boutique creative company in Singapore.

Alicia Graham

Co-Founder and Principal at Big Tomorrow, an experience design firm that solves complex human, business and technology challenges. Focused on creating connected, personal, seamless, and adaptive products and services, she helps partners share knowledge, improve health, and inspire imagination by building experiences that empower people to live their best lives.

With more than 15 years of experience, Alicia is a proven leader in building sustainable innovation practices that bring groundbreaking products and services to market. Her diverse list of clients spans Disney, DARPA, Stanford Hospital & Clinics, University of Texas and Sound United – receiving numerous awards, including Fast Company Innovation by Design, IDSA Service Design and CES Innovations Design and Engineering. As a former economist, marketer, and product manager, she bridges the gaps between users, data, design and development.

Christian Doering

Christian Doering believes that “Design is about having a fantasy” and while not winning international awards as a Creative Director or as Head of Design before 2010 and at KOREFE the design and innovation arm of one of Germany’s most highly decorated communication agencies in Kolle Rebbe since, nothing satiates his passion for design nor his unmistakably personal aesthetic more than Brand Developing for among others, more individual artist driven projects like the contemporary art project Maison Blessing or with the electronic music scene and working together with record labels including Dial & Laid Records, BPitch Control and the artists Ellen Allien and Pantha Du Prince. He is also a Design Consultant for the renowned art magazine “Texte zur Kunst” and DJ’s regularly for clubs like Robert Johnson, Panorama Bar at Berghain, PAL and since 2010 is resident Dj at Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg. He is a member of the Art Directors Club Germany (Section Design & Editorial Design) and member of the Designers Club Germany (DDC).

Lise Coirier

Editor-in-Chief, TL (Trends & Living) / Director, Pro Materia

After studying business management and art history in London and Brussels, Lise Coirier (Parisian by origin) specialized in contemporary crafts and design. She founded design consultancy agency Pro Materia in 1999 with the objective of promoting today's designers in Belgium as well as abroad by means of expositions, conferences, competitions and publications. Pro Materia's latest projects include 'Human Cities', a project on sustainable urban design which took place both in Brussels and Istanbul, the 'Belgian Designer Rooms' in thewhitehotel, 'Commerce Design Brussels', an initiative to promote well-designed retail spaces, and many more. At the beginning of 2009, Lise transformed the former Textile magazine into an internationally oriented quarterly on innovative materials and trends in design, fashion, retail and urban space. In the meantime, TL magazine, short for Trends & Living, has become a reference publication for a new vision on the design world of tomorrow.
